What is my life path number?

What a life path number is, how to find yours from your birth date, and one sample date worked step by step.

Short answer

Your life path number is the number numerology takes from your full birth date. To find yours, add all eight digits of your birth date, then add the digits of the total until one digit is left. NinePath stops early if a step lands on 11, 22 or 33 and keeps it as a master number.

Your life path number is the number numerology takes from your full birth date. You find it by adding the digits of the date and reducing the total, and it stays the same for life.

What is a life path number?

Numerology is the belief in a mystical link between numbers and ideas. The life path number is the one it works out from the day, month and year you were born. Nothing else goes into it: not your name, not your birth time.

Because it uses your full birth date, your life path number stays the same for life. The number that changes from day to day is your personal day number. NinePath works that one out from your birth month and day together with the current date.

How do you find your life path number?

  1. Write your birth date as eight digits.
  2. Add all eight digits together.
  3. Add the digits of the total. Repeat until one digit is left.

NinePath adds one rule to step 3. If a step lands on 11, 22 or 33, NinePath stops there and keeps it as a master number. A master number still has a single digit: 11 reduces to 2, 22 to 4 and 33 to 6, and NinePath keeps both. Totals such as 44 reduce in the usual way.

Worked exampleThe sample date 14 March 1992
  1. D1
  2. D4
  3. M0
  4. M3
  5. Y1
  6. Y9
  7. Y9
  8. Y2

1 + 4 + 0 + 3 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 29, then 2 + 9 = 11. 11 is a master number, so it is kept; it reduces to 1 + 1 = 2.

The life path number for this date is 11, which reduces to 2.

Numerology does not always treat 11 and 22 this way, as Wikipedia's page on digital roots notes. Another method reduces the month, day and year separately before it adds them together. That can change whether a master number appears, but never the final single digit.

What this means for your day

Your life path number is a fixed starting point, not a plan for the day. Use it as one more way to reflect, and keep your own judgement for the choices in front of you.

For your day

Do

Add the eight digits of your birth date yourself and check the sum twice.

Don't

Don't let a single number make a decision for you.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between a life path number and a personal day number?

Your life path number comes from your birth date alone, so it never changes. Your personal day number combines your birth date with the current date, so it changes every day.

Which life path numbers are there?

The single digits 1 to 9. In NinePath's method a life path can also be the master number 11, 22 or 33.

Why did a calculator give me a different life path number?

It may add the parts of the date in a different order, or reduce 11, 22 and 33 to one digit. The final single digit stays the same either way.
